The Met Gala 2017 – thoughts

Hey guys! I hope everyone is well and having some fun for the weekend.

Today is another post about the happenings of the fashion world. To be exact, the Met Gala. This year the MET museums exhibition theme is ” Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons – Art of the in – between”.

Just a quick summary of the brand and Rei Kawakubo. She is a Japanese designer from Tokyo, who established her brand Comme des Garçons in the 1970s. The brand became popular because of Kawakubo’s ability to challenge conventional beauty. The term mostly used with her designs is avant-garde. So, what does avant-garde mean? Most dictionaries say that the meaning of the term is – new and unusual or experimental ideas.

I think each person will interpret this in different ways, and that is what the red carpet looks were telling us as well. Now I am not here to tell you who was the best dressed or worst dressed. There is a plenty of websites that tell us each year these things. What I noticed, and probably it is just me, that the red carpet looks were kind of uncertain. Maybe this is because like I mentioned before, every single person interprets avant – garde in different ways. But I think this whole concept completely reflected the world today. Anna Wintour mentioned this several times that fashion can reflect the issues in the world and that is what I got from the whole event.

Uncertainty or not, I think the theme was amazing this year – because I am a huge fan of Japanese designers – an I am already looking forward to the next years one. And if you live or plan to visit New York, go and check out the exhibition.

What are your thoughts on the Met Gala?

See you on Monday,

The Fashion Eclectic.
